Vladimir Tretchikoff

Tretchikoff’s subjects were often inspired by his early life in China, Singpore and Indonesia, and in later life in South Africa. His use of colour was unconventional and he found that people like to have colour in their lives.

Lady from Orient strikingly illustrates the artist’s use of colour – he used pure colours to combine on the canvas rather than mixing them on the palette beforehand.

“Tretchikoff was quite a charmer,” says Boris Gorelik. “He usually had no problem finding women to model for him because his pictures were so appealing. He always glamourised women.”
